Lori's Bites Volume 5

Lori's Bites Volume 5

Sometimes less is more. Many of us are juggling so many roles between work, family, and caregiving. While it’s easy to add more things to the never-ending to-do list, sometimes we really need to get back to the basics and simplify. Think sleep, movement, and nourishing food to ground and nourish you.

Sleep is challenging for many of us. Recent research suggests that nearly 50% of American adults don’t get adequate sleep. Work, technology, and stress are reasons we stay up too late.

If you have trouble winding down at night, here are some ideas:

  • Create a bedtime routine that starts 30-60 minutes before bed: journal, ready, stretch, take a hot bath, drink a cup of chamomile tea
  • Limit screens and stress before bed; save checking emails until the morning
  • Have a protein-rich snack. This may particularly benefit those who wake in the night and have difficulty falling back asleep. You can try a hardboiled egg, some jerky, or Scott’s Protein Balls.

We tend to think that more is more when it comes to exercise, but sometimes less is more here too. Walking is an underrated form of exercise but incredibly effective for metabolic and mental health. It’s also free and can happen almost anywhere.

We suggest walking in nature as you are able. Many of us don’t spend enough time soaking up all the benefits of nature, and walking outside is one way to double up on these simple healthy habits.

This week we challenge you to consider where you can do less to reap greater benefits from your wellness routine.

Wishing you a delicious week!

Lori Levine is an eternal optimist and after undergoing breast cancer treatment, she learned she had to upgrade her snacks to upgrade her health. She and her husband Scott became accidental entrepreneurs after he lovingly created quality protein balls made from tasty, easily recognizable ingredients that are as convenient as they are healthy and delicious! Even better? 1% of all sales are donated to Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to help support breast cancer research. #betheend.
